The title is reminiscent of that theme, that nothing was left from the old age. In this way, it could be said that the central idea of the novel is about picking up the pieces. Her friend Ena however, retained her wealth.

Nada is the story of two families, both of whom belonged to the same socio-economic class before the war, but because of the senseless brutality of the Spanish Civil War, the culture is in shambles, which means for the protagonist, Andrea, that life will never be the same.
